About Meg Blocker

http://queenietakesmanhattan.blogspot.com/

A user experience lead by day, Meg Blocker is the author of the food and travel blog Queenie Takes Manhattan by night (and weekend afternoon, and occasional early morning). She spends what little free time she has left visiting the Greenmarket, drinking cocktails (preferably made with Bourbon or gin) and reading anything she can get her hands on – especially anything by Margaret Atwood. A confirmed Manhattanite (Ten years, baby!), Meg nevertheless loves exploring the outer boroughs, and even the world beyond. (Strasbourg is a particular favorite.) She has a weakness for letterpress stationery and vintage brass, and sticky toffee pudding.

If you’re anything like me, you’ve spent an unholy amount of time in the last couple of weeks watching episodes of The West Wing, recently made available to junkies like us via Netflix streaming. (For those of you who were unaware of this development: You’re welcome. We’ll see you in a few weeks.) I was [...] Jan 9, 2013

The F Words: Miriam Blocker

Ladies and gentlemen, meet Miriam. You might have noticed that Miriam and I share a last name; she’s married, you see, to my little brother, and is a seriously amazing lady. She studied at the University of Edinburgh, where she managed a theater over the summers (where, it happens, she met said little brother), then [...] Dec 26, 2012

I don’t know if you’d heard, but it’s the holiday season. Things are festive and lit up and draped in tinsel everywhere you look. For the next two weeks, the world, my friends, is your disco ball. And while I love the holidays—being a fan of everything sparkly, gifts, and brown liquor, how could I [...] Dec 20, 2012

I have many guilty pleasures, including the queso from Torchy’s Tacos in Austin, The Real Houswives of New York, and, most importantly for us here today, the British miniseries Lost in Austen. It’s a sort of wish fulfillment version of Pride and Prejudice, in which a plucky, modern-day heroine named Amanda Price finds a portal [...] Nov 28, 2012

I’m a 33 year old woman who has no interest in having children. If your first reaction to that statement was something along the lines of, “Oh, just wait, you’ll change your mind,” or “You never know until you try it, ” I beg of you: please keep it to yourself. You’re not alone in [...] Oct 24, 2012

The F Words: Ally Kirkpatrick

We have an exciting treat today in F Words land, folks. One of The Equals Project’s newest contributors, the ridiculously overtalented and supercool Ally Kirkpatrick, is here to talk about being a lady and an eater (and an emerging cook). Her blog, The Green Cabin Year, is a chronicle of her life in a teeny [...] Oct 10, 2012

I think about street harassment nearly every day, because I am harassed nearly every day. This is the reality for women who spend a decent amount of time walking around outside—even more so for women in densely populated urban centers. And I live in Manhattan, so . . . yeah. Nearly every day. Most days, [...] Aug 29, 2012

The F Words: Anica Rissi

Cats and kittens, get ready. After something of a summer hiatus, The F Words is back – and with a super special treat. Joining us today is my dear friend Anica Mrose Rissi, young adult fiction editor extraordinaire. (Fun fact: back when I was a recruiter, I placed Anica in her very first job at [...] Related Posts Plugin for WordPress, Blogger... Aug 15, 2012
