About Alison Schramm

http://www.afewgoodlaughs.tumblr.com

Alison Schramm is a lawyer-turned-account manager, and is still figuring out what she wants to be when she grows up. Born and raised in Rochester, NY, she now lives in Brooklyn with her husband. An English major in a prior life, she started writing again after her mom passed away this past February, and is more than humbled to be sharing her stories here. Her friends and family make her world go round, yoga makes her a better person, a good plate of nachos makes her smile, and she’s always looking for an excuse to throw a party. Find her keeping her mom’s memory alive over at www.afewgoodlaughs.tumblr.com.

Talk to Me

Talk to Me

Alison Schramm

I know that plenty of people talk to their mothers, at best, once a week, or even—and I start to stutter here—every few weeks. Now, I’m not passing any judgments, but this just did not fly with my mom. I remember her informing me years ago, as I was going through, shall we say, an [...] Mar 11, 2013

Making Mistakes

Making Mistakes

Alison Schramm

I spent the last week in Florida, holed up in conference rooms by day and attending boozy events by night. It was my company’s annual sales conference, a huge event that brings sales professionals together from across the country. I don’t write much—or anything really—about my day job here. I work for a large legal [...] Feb 11, 2013

Both Sides

Both Sides

Alison Schramm

One year, shortly before we were to leave for Christmas Eve mass, and hours before the entire family was to descend on our house to celebrate the holiday, the basement pipes exploded. My father—not the handiest, to be sure—valiantly tried to patch the pipes, while balancing precariously on a folding chair. My mom’s parting words, [...] Jan 28, 2013

My mom didn’t call me on my birthday each year at the exact time of day I was born, and tell me the story of my birth. She didn’t sing the Happy Birthday song to me over the phone, and she certainly did not send me to elementary school with little love notes tucked into [...] Dec 31, 2012

A Life Without My Mother

A Life Without My Mother

Alison Schramm

Eliza Deacon is a photographer living in northern Tanzania, and is also our latest contributor. Here, she writes beautifully about living the majority of her life without  her mother. Living, loving, traveling—it seems she is never really without her mother, something I can relate to in my own way. Thank you, Eliza, for sharing this beautiful and [...] Dec 17, 2012

Live to Eat

Live to Eat

Alison Schramm

My mom used to say that there are two types of people, with a very important distinction to be made between them. There are those who eat to live and those who live to eat. We, as a family, have always fallen into the latter category. Growing up, dinnertime was serious business. We gathered night [...] Dec 3, 2012

Quiet Can Be Loud

Quiet Can Be Loud

Alison Schramm

I’m thrilled to introduce you to this week’s contributor, Trina McNeilly. Trina needs no introduction to many of you, as she’s the blogger behind the popular (and gorgeous)  La La Lovely. She’s also a mom to FOUR!, a freelance writer and a self -proclaimed style scout, who is currently making her childhood home into her grown-up home.  What [...] Nov 19, 2012

The Faithful

The Faithful

Alison Schramm

““Do I love you this much?” she’d ask us, holding her hands six inches apart. “No,” we’d say, with sly smiles. “Do I love you this much?” she’d ask again, and on and on and on, each time moving her hands farther apart. But she would never get there, no matter how wide she stretched [...] Related Posts Plugin for WordPress, Blogger... Nov 5, 2012
